"Gvir" was imported by Ellen from Israel to the US when he was 6 months old, and later made a trip across the pond with her to England, and quarantine, when he was 2 years old. "Gvir" made a tremendous contribution to the breed's genepool. He sired the US's top agility Canaan, Briel's Isabel P Tiger Pooh and is the grandsire of the first AKC champion, Cherrysh Gideon's Topaz. In England he sired a litter out of Minto's Libyan Jewel which produced the first Bermudian champion and multi-group placer, Anacan Cause To Celebrate; the second Canaan to win a Best In show in the UK, Anacan Ziggy; and Anacan Divine Brown For Babrees, who was the foundation bitch for Ian & Jill Terry's Babrees Canaans. October 2000 he produced his second, and last litter in the UK, for Lorna Hastings, which produced the 2001 Top Canaan Puppy, Lorianna Lucky Star. He was then castrated.
"Gvir" was wonderful with adults, young children and puppies. However, he hated any male dog over a year of age. So to help ease the tension between him and the other males in the Minto's household, Lorna Hastings agreed to keep him at her farm in lieu of a stud fee. On September 13th "Gvir" was let out for a run, and never came back. There were many sightings in the first weeks, but despite a heroic effort on Lorna's part, he has never been found. Now, eight months on, with no sightings for quite some time, the Mintos have come to accept that they will never see "Gvir" again. Perhaps someone is housing him, and we can only pray that his twilight years are happy. It's the not knowing that hurts.
Thank you "Gvir" for all you have done for us, and for the Canaan breed.
