Comments: Hello, I'm 14 years old and saw the Caanan dog first in a book in WHSmiths. I love this breed now, but can't get one anywhere. Can you send me some ideas of prices and my local breeder. I live near Abergavenny in SW. Well, I think the site is great.
Laura.

Comments: We have a Border Collie/Irish Setter mix that is most adorable and loyal member of our family. I had never heard of a Canaan before a month ago when I happened on a book of Herding Dogs that showed one that looked particularilly similiar to ours and found out that the breed was a Canaan. We are totally fascinated in learning more of this breed and your website has been the most informative we have found. Thank you so much for the information posted here. You can be assured that we will visit often.
Bless you. Kari

Comments: In the book store halfway late last night, my boyfriend and I discovered that our dog is a canaan. It was quite a discovery, we've had her for four years and always wondered what breed Mia was. We've always told people she was just a mut! But, to our delight we found a spitting image picture of her in an encylopedia of dogs. I'm glad to be learning more about this interesting breed. Mia, was picked up by a vet as a stray in Taos New Mexico. She fits the general description of shape and colors. Mostly black with white markings. Any info is appreciated.

Comments: Great site. We think that we may have found a Canaan dog here in MA a year ago! He was an abandoned dog who has turned out to be the joy of our lives. The vet does not seem to know the breed so we have been doing our own research. We have found the Canaan to be right on and would like to talk to others to confirm this.

Comments: I have a canaan puppy that is 14 months old. Her name is Kila and we got her from the pound at 9 months. When we adopted her she wasn't housebroken and she chewed on everything. After about 3 weeks she showed much improvement. I couldn't get her to sit or stay but my dad tought her to shake. They are very good listeners and they are very cooperative, she puts up with a lot. Canaans are really lovable and great with the kids.

Comments: What a great website for a great breed of dog! we found ours at an animal shelter where she lived her first year (crated). I didn't know what breed she was until today, when I found this website, but I suspected she was some type of herd dog, because when our other dog, a lab, goes out to do his business, she keeps a sharp eye on him from the porch, and the moment he is done she runs out to the yard and quickly herds him back to the house!

Comments: We are the owners of a rescued dog that we now believe to be a Canaan dog. The vet had concluded that Quigley was a Huskey mix, but we happened across a picture of the Canaan breed and are convinced that he is truly of this breed. Having looked at your pictures and read about their characteristics, we are further convinced. He is black with a white chest, paws and tail tip. There is also a small patch of white at the nose. Ears are pointed and held errect, as is the tail. When first released on his daily runs, he will make leaps much like a gazelle. When he is stalking, he maintains a focus on the object of attention and his gate is slow with front and hind paws going toe to toe. At full gate he is much like a cheetah with his front legs together. One last observation is that he loves fruit and vegatables. He will eat cucumbers, oranges, melon rinds, and bananas. Do these characteristics sound like a Canaan? Perhaps we can take a picture and forward it to you.
Thank you,

Comments: I have a six year old dog i rescued from the Humane Soc. I was always told she was a lab/bagle mix. it's obvious now that she's at least half Canaan. The only real difference I see is that she's slightly stockier and her ears are down like a lab's. Are Canaans bred often with other dogs?

Comments: After years of wondering what breed my dog is and thinking that he was a mix,=I have finally discovered the Canaan Dog. Joshua fits the breed perfectly in both his pysical characteristics and temperament. I adopted him as an abandoned puppy and he has turned out to be the most wonderful dog, getting compliments on his looks and personality wherever we go. Thanks for all your great photos and information.

Comments: Just looking through your pictures. I spotted a Canaan dog at a show in Raleigh, NC. I know the woman probably thought the group I was with was crazy. You see, the Canaan dog looked a little like a Belgian Malinois. It was fawn in color with black overlay, and somewhat a mask. I had to do a double take!! I own a Belgian Malinois, and this was my second dog show. I was just looking for maybe a picture, because I would have liked to take a picture of this dog.Thank goodness there were other Belgian people there. I wasn't alone, and just seeing things!!

Comments: Hi! We are looking for the right breed for us and it seems like the Canaan Dog might be it. Our children are 7 and 9 years old. We are dog oriented people and would like an intelligent dog who likes to play and learn tricks.

We are not very very active but we can walk the dog twice a day and we have an open terrace of about 70 square meters. Besides, our dog would never be left alone. Please answer the following questions: 1. Is crate training suitable for them? 2. What is the approximate price for such dog? I will probably contact breeders in the USA but would like to have an idea of their cost. Thank you and really hope you can answer this questions for us. Regards, Alicia
